Seven-vehicle accident caused four-mile tailback on the A64 near York

An accident involving multiple vehicles caused major tailbacks on the A64 this morning (Thursday).

The crash at Bilborough Top on the westbound carriageway involved seven vehicles.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: “We attended a damage only collision on the A64 involving seven vehicles, reported at 7.21am.

“A woman received an injury that did not require hospital treatment. The scene was cleared by 9.04am.”

The accident blocked a lane for a while. This was cleared by 9.29am.

An hour earlier Highways England said there were four miles of congestion and delays of around 40 minutes:

If travelling in #NorthYorkshire this morning pls be aware there are LONG DELAYS on the #A64 nr #Tadcaster due to this incident. There are approx 4 miles of congestion which is expected to add around 40 mins onto usual journey times. Plan ahead if travelling btwn #York and #A1M.

But by 10.15am the traffic was flowing normally again.
