It has been announced at this weeks Pocklington Town Council Meeting that after 21 years as Town Crier, Geoff Sheasby is set to retire.
Story from Barry Stockdale of the Pocklington Bugle Facebook Page
Councillors unanimously agreed that this will be a sad loss for the town as the role is greatly appreciated, as is Geoff.
A plan is being drawn up to set up, which will involve Geoff, to find a replacement.
So, if you are interested, you’d better start gargling and practising the art of public speaking at the dog.
Geoff will probably still be kept occupied with other interests as he is actively engaged in the Pocklington community, sitting on the committees of Pocklington Local History Group and The United Services Club.
He is also the official ‘Taster’ of Brass Castle Brewery in Malton (It is not clear if he will be retiring from this role).
His last public engagement will be at the Town’s Jubilee event in the Market Place on Sunday 5 June.
More details of how the new Town Crier will be appointed will follow later.
