Students and staff at the University of York campus are mourning the death of one of their celebrity ducks.
Chonky Boi was put to sleep after being attacked by a fox and it’s thought he was defending his ducklings at the time. They all survived the attack.
University newspaper, York Vision, reported that the York grounds team were “by his side” as he passed away. He was too badly injured so had to be put to sleep.
Journalist Iwan Stone told David Dunning’s YorkMix Radio Late Show that Chonky Boi was as well known on campus as the more famous Long Boi, recently featured on James Corden’s chat show in the United States.
Both ducks were tall, he said, Chonky Boi was a bit smaller at about 60cm tall but was also has a large body and like Long Boi stood out in the crowd.
The Instagram page, @chonkyboiyork, which has 545 followers at time of writing, has updated its bio to read: “RIP Gone before your time”.
