A Malton resident needed medical treatment after fire broke out in their flat.
Both Malton fire crews were called to the incident on Castlegate at 6.17pm yesterday (Friday).
Neighbours had put out the cooker fire as firefighters arrived, but the flat was smoke logged.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The occupant was out on arrival and was treated by paramedics at the scene for slight smoke inhalation.
“The occupants of a neighboring flat extinguished the fire, prior to fire service arrival. Crews isolated the oven and extinguished the residual heat.
“A positive pressure ventilation fan was then used to ventilate the property of any lingering smoke.”
The road was closed while the emergency was in progress.
