An historic building that includes a popular York bar is up for sale.

Numbers 31-33 Goodramgate are on the market, with “serious offers” invited.

The ground floor is home to Vahe, the intimate bar which serves an amazing range of beers and wines.

Owner Vahe Nersessian is retiring and selling up. And so the historic property is up for grabs.

Offered freehold with vacant possession, it includes ten rooms over two floors.

Originally a house, the sale details say the Grade II listed property dates back to 1380.

“Originally home to the priest from the Minster, the property formed part of the Vicars Choral and monastery buildings where a chapel and Bedern Hall still remain to this day,” Vahe posted on Instagram.

“This is a rare opportunity to acquire a property of this calibre in such a prime location, directly opposite the medieval window of the Minster in College Square, which has recently been made a public space by the City of York Council.

“Serious offers are invited. Please send all offers to V.N. Properties at 31-33 Goodramgate, York, YO1 7LS.”

York’s excellent online pub guide Within The Walls describes Vahe as “a bar that is very much focused on great beer in a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere” stocking continental beers “some of which you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere else in York”.

In reply to Within The Walls tweeting about Vahe, the York branch of the Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood said: “Absolutely a superb oasis of European beer and a great bar too.”

What became Vahe was previously Koko, a bar opened in what had been the Beer Ritz shop. More recently it has only been open on Friday and Saturday nights.
