A combination of sharp-eyed witnesses, technology and swift police action saw two suspected shoplifters arrested.
North Yorkshire Police were contacted by the Go Outdoors store on Foss Bank, York on Thursday afternoon (September 7), to report two suspected shoplifters who had just left the store.
The pair had also been seen visiting their Wakefield store earlier that day.
Shop workers provided police with details and a description of the vehicle the suspects had left in.
High-value items recovered
Through the use of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras, the vehicle was located and successfully stopped by police on the A64 near Tadcaster Road, York.
Following a search of the vehicle, a number of high-value items including waterproof jackets and trousers were located, all suspected to have been stolen from the Wakefield store.
Officers arrested two women aged 47 and 54, both from Liverpool, on suspicion of theft from a shop.
They were later transferred into the custody of West Yorkshire Police who will lead the investigation.
