Police staged a major operation for the big match last night (Tuesday) – with officers warning beforehand that they would take ‘prompt and robust action’ against troublemakers.
There was a large police presence in York city centre and at the LNER Community Stadium.
York City were playing Oldham in the playoff semi-final, with a trip to Wembley the prize for the winners.

Oldham brought more than 1,600 fans in a match attendance of 8,153.
City lost 3-0, with Oldham fans invading the pitch at full time and setting off flares
Given the stakes and the size of the crowd there was relatively little trouble. But police did make six arrests:
- In two separate incidents, two men, one from Oldham aged 20, and one from Sefton aged 26, were arrested on suspicion of throwing a flare inside the stadium. The 26-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis. They have both been released on bail while enquiries continue.
- Two men from Oldham aged 26 and 37 were arrested following reports of racist chanting inside the stadium. They have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
- A 16-year-old boy from the York area was arrested following a fight in the shopping park outside of the stadium. He was later released and will be interviewed in due course.
- A 42-year-old man from the York area was arrested in the shopping park outside of the stadium on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. He was later released and will be interviewed in due course.
