No one was in the property at the time of the blaze.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Following an examination of the scene by police crime scene investigators and fire investigation officers, it is now believed that the fire was started deliberately.
“The fire is being treated as arson and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
“A cordon remains in place at the scene to allow investigation work to continue. We believe that this is an isolated incident and have increased high visibility patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.”
Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious.
They also want people with dashcam or doorbell footage to contact them.
