Police have moved to reassure residents as they continue to investigate a serious sexual assault in York.
Detectives have thanked residents for their patience and support after the attack, on Nunnery Lane at 11.45pm on Tuesday 7 May.
DS Mark Jackson, of the Major Investigation Team, said:
-
It’s completely understandable that residents are concerned following this very serious incident.
However, I’d like to reassure the community that we have arrested a man – who does not live in the York area – and that extensive enquiries are ongoing.
The man has been released on bail while the investigation continues. I can also say that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Following the incident officers and PCSOs from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team have been active in the Nunnery Lane area, supporting the local community and dealing with any concerns.
DS Jackson added: “We have had a good response to our appeal for information from members of the public, and I would like to thank people for their assistance.”
