In the late spring sunshine people gathered at Clifford’s Tower to do something simple and special. Hold hands.
Smiling and laughing, the group of all ages clasped one another by the hand and held them aloft.
The flash mob event was hosted by York Pride. It reinforced the theme of this year’s event: Hold Hands with Pride.
“The theme intends to raise awareness for LGBT rights and equality by demonstrating how the simple act of holding a loved one’s hand in public can be intimidating and the source of scrutiny for LGBT individuals,” said Connor Briggs of York Pride.
It is hoped that one day no York LGBT+ resident will feel uncomfortable holding the hand of their loved one in public.
This year’s York Pride takes place on Saturday, June 10.
