It brought a torrential rainstorm, leaving people out enjoying the city on a summer’s evening to dash for cover.
Today feels fresher, and forecasters are predicting a top temperature of 20°C, a large drop from the 30°C-plus at the weekend.
A yellow thunderstorm warning covering York and North Yorkshire remains in place today.
Forecasters are suggesting more showers are likely this afternoon and evening.
Tonight, temperatures will fall to 14°C.
