Thousands of people flocked to York Racecourse to watch great sport, meet the stars and simply have tons of fun at the YorkMix Family Raceday today (Sunday).
They enjoyed seven great races and all manner of other activities, from face painting to Zorb football as the emphasis was on enjoyment for all ages.
On the course, Gale Force Maya blew away the competition to take the feature race, the £60,000 Elevator Company Garrowby Stakes.
And there was a poignant moment before the pony race. York riders held a minute’s silence in tribute to 13-year-old Jack de Bromhead, who died in a pony racing accident at the Glenbeigh Festival in Ireland yesterday.
Away from the course, a big draw was the chance to meet Chase, star of children’s television hit Paw Patrol.
And YorkMix Radio‘s Moxie Monster was a big hit too.
Among the activities proving popular with the young visitors were Diggerland, inflatables, and the chance to have a go at being a jockey on the Equicizer, a mechanical racehorse.
TV presenter and one of the faces of racing, Derek Thompson, chatted and played games with the crowds.
And even those who had a little flutter and lost came away with a big smile on their face – as everyone’s a winner at the YorkMix Family Raceday!
