A person has been struck by a train north of York.
The incident, said to be in the Thirsk area, saw all lines closed as emergency services responded to the incident.
It was first reported at 6.24pm on Friday night.
It saw hours of disruption on trains due to be travelling between York and Darlington.
Services affected include LNER trains between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh, Grand Central trains between London Kings Cross and Sunderland and CrossCountry trains going north.
National Rail said on Friday night: “A person has been hit by a train between York and Darlington meaning all lines are closed.
“As the emergency services attend the incident, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 50 minutes or revised.
“Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.”
The incident was cleared at 2.29am on Saturday morning.
