Seriously? It’s a bit of clickbait this article and also a very short one that’s not written very well to be honest. It seems lacking in detail and makes out that the only ‘facts’ they have is one persons story! If it’s an appeal for info then headline it as such please. News outlets need to remain impartial right?
So if the cyclist reported the supposed ‘crime’ would he have been portrayed as a victim and the ‘pensioner’ been portrayed as a wicked ‘old’man? This is not unbiased reporting about what must have been a near miss…it could have been either’ fault or noone’s and we don’t know what possible two sided altercation took place…., and really to suggest that cyclists are roaming the countryside to assault motorists!? How about giving a description of the car so that witnesses to the whole incident could also be sought? Disappointing reporting
Hi Hilary. We can only report the details released by the police. And the police are limited by descriptions given to them by witnesses – perhaps they didn’t give details of the car. From what we can tell the police are basically asking for independent witnesses to try to establish what, if any, crime was committed, and our report is one way to try to find those witnesses.
But the police don’t write your headline which essentially convicts the cyclist without any details to back it up. Do you think your headline is a fair reflection on the incident and is responsible journalism?
I absolutely agree with Roger on this – his question is right, is this responsible journalism? 🙁
The police are asking for witnesses in a case where they say a motorist has been verbally abused by a cyclist. We report the story, putting ‘verbally abused’ in quotation marks to make it clear that this is a reported occurrence.
We also give the full numbers so any witnesses can easily contact the police and help them with their inquiries, and give prominence to the fact that they need help to determine the full circumstances.
So yes, this is responsible journalism.
Not the greatest story is it?
Seriously?
