Parts of North Yorkshire could lose TV pictures again ahead of the switch on of the temporary Bilsdale transmitter
Arqiva is planning to switch on the temporary Bilsdale mast this Wednesday 13th October. The final engineering work and powertests are due to take place tomorrow and during the early hours of Wednesday, which will have an impact for those viewers that DO have a signal!
Depending on the weather, they will be carrying out a full test of the new temporary mast at Bilsdale tomorrow, Tuesday 12 October.
During this test, most people across the area will lose their TV signal for a period.
Arqiva says it knows this is frustrating, and they apologise for the disruption, but this is an important step in restoring your TV services.
You do not need to retune your TV yet, as the signal will come and go while they complete the testing.
From early on Wednesday morning (6am onwards) you will need to retune your TV to restore your full services.
This is all part of essential work to restore and improve Freeview services for households following the Bilsdale mast fire. Once this has been done, more than 90% of households will have a restored or improved service. There will still be some “notspots” especially in parts of Ryedale and the Whitby area.
The new, temporary mast at Bilsdale means:
- The full set of Freeview channels will now be available
- There will be a stronger signal which is less prone to weather disruption
- Another 50,000 households will be able to receive a signal.
In a small number of areas, some people still won’t receive a signal after the temporary mast is switched on. Unfortunately, They will only know which households are still affected once the mast is up and running.
In the coming days, for people still without service, they will be setting out more support, help and updates here at www.bilsdalemast.co.uk.
