Part of a main road through Wensleydale to close for resurfacing work
Beginning on Monday (October 25), North Yorkshire council highways teams will be resurfacing the A684 through the extent of the 30mph speed limit in the village of Patrick Brompton between Leyburn and Bedale.
The work will last for up to two and a half weeks. Due to the nature of resurfacing the A684 in both directions will be closed during working hours of 9.30am to 3.30pm with a signed diversion in place.
Local councillor Karin Sedgwick said: “During the summer a series of improvements have been carried out through the Safer Roads Fund, including the crossroad junction to the west of Patrick Brompton, which had posed many concerns in its original layout. Along with this extensive resurfacing, the A684 will be a much safer route for all road users.
“We appreciate the duration and nature of the works will cause disruption for residents, commuters and visitors, however, we are carrying out the work during off-peak hours to minimise this as much as possible.”

The council was awarded £7.06m to fund a series of safety improvement projects on the A684 from Leeming Bar to Junction 37 of the M6.
It was one of four successful bids to the Safer Roads Fund, which is available to local authorities to upgrade 50 A-roads identified as being the most dangerous in the country.
