It seems like York is growing to like this outdoor living idea.
What began out of necessity is now developing into something more, as businesses plan for longer-term al fresco dining, drinking and leisure time.
One such place is the Fox Inn on Holgate Road in York. It is planning to create a detached single storey building housing an outdoor drinks and pizza bar.

Plans are in for the building which would house a beer cellar and pizza area.
Planning documents state: “Currently, a small window on the north eastern elevation provides the only means of serving customers in the beer garden.
“An external dedicated bar area will provide a more efficient way of serving customers in the beer garden and allow staff in the internal bar area, to serve customers inside the pub.
“Since Ossett Brewery took over the pub, there has always been a food offering on
site.
“Typically this has been via a emerging local food business visiting the site (for
example Dough Eyed Pizza who have now set up premises in Jubbergate).
“Now the brewery would like to invest in their own in house pizza offering, akin to their
existing premises at The Hop, on Fossgate.”
The Fox is also applying for permission for an outdoor marquee for the next 12 months. Measuring 18m by 6m, it is smaller than a previous marquee planned for the beer garden.
An application for a 21m by 10m marquee was withdrawn after “a good degree of feedback” on how it “competed visually with the listed building and the amount of space it occupied”.
