A new football club shop looks set to open in York. But it’s not one that has gone down well with York City fans.
Because the club shop would belong to… Hull City FC.
It comes after Hull City posted a job advert on its website, for a ‘retail store manager – York’.
The job ad reads: “We have an exciting opportunity available for an individual to join Hull City as a Retail Store Manager, for our brand-new store opening soon in York…
“We are really excited to start our new journey in York and are looking for someone with proven leadership and commercial experience to join our growing team.”
The successful candidate would enjoy perks including 20% off at the Tiger Leisure Store and “two season cards for you and/or your family to attend Hull City home games”.
Presumably the shop would sell Hull kits and merchandise in their distinctive amber and black colours.
We have asked Hull City for more details about the store, including its location and opening date, but have not yet had a response.
But York City fans were quick to respond…
Gavin Wilson, York City Knights RLFC 2018 clubman of the year, posted on X: “I give it 6 hours before their shop window is covered in #YCFC stickers… and rightly so.”
Another said: “They’ve got delusions of grandeur! They’re not even the biggest supported club in Hull!!”
And a third joked: “They’re essentially the Barcelona of the East Riding.”
