A new restaurant is being created with a nod to York’s industrial past and a very modern menu.
Bosses at York’s only five-star hotel The Grand have revealed plans for Legacy, its upcoming restaurant.
Set to launch this summer, Legacy’s interiors have been constructed by leading design firm Faber.
According to the hotel, Legacy will have a striking new look: “The setting will be bold yet elegant, seating up to 26 covers, with interiors demonstrating the building’s iconic and historic features with modern twists, including blueprint murals, oak panelling, sculptural lighting, industrial ironwork and crisp colour contrasts.”
Guests will be welcomed in The White Rose Lounge to enjoy an arrival cocktail and canapés before being invited into the restaurant for a personal introduction from the chef, with an overview of the dishes.
Head chef Ahmed Abdalla will focus on modern British cuisine with a menu made up of a carefully curated collaboration of flavours and locally sourced ingredients.
“I am incredibly excited about crafting a truly unique fine-dining experience at Legacy by immersing different elements of the journey for guests.” said Ahmed.
“This must be a destination offering more than just great food – of course this will be paramount, but I want to really elevate the guest experience from start to finish.”
His background includes York restaurant, Skosh, Yorebridge House in The Dales and stages at Restaurant Hywel Jones at Lucknam Park.
The Grand’s general manager Simon Mahon said:
Undoubtedly, this will enhance our guests’ experience, particularly so for those who are enthused by fine dining and the best of British cuisine.
Adding to this, it will elevate our wonderful city’s growing food scene, and this is something we cannot wait to be part of!
A spokesperson for the Grand said: “With sustainability being of great importance for both the build and culinary operation, environmentally conscious choices have been made throughout.”
