The man from Del Monte wants to build 78 new homes in York – but will planners say yes?
The land that was once home to the Del Monte Factory, on Shipton Road, Skelton, looks set to be turned into a large housing estate.
Del Monte Fresh Produce won outline planning permission for the development in 2016. Now David Wilson Homes and Sten Architecture have submitted more detailed proposals.
They want to build:
- 78 new homes
- a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom dwellings
- and a children’s play area.
The development would also include homes with “space for home based working and office spaces”.
High quality environment
The applicants say their designers have created “a sustainable and high quality living environment which makes efficient use of land in terms of housing numbers and density”.
It will retain the existing pond, include a play area with swings, a seesaw and a climbing area, and a large area of public open space.
They state:
-
The proposals seek to deliver a sustainable development and a high quality of life that improves economic, social and environmental well being.
Planning documents state that “provision of affordable homes” is a key area for discussion, and that such homes should not be “banished to the least attractive part of the site”.
