More caravans have arrived on Heworth Stray – despite the enforcement action taken by the council.
The first two caravans pitched up on the stray on Monday.
City of York Council confirmed that camping of any kind on the stray was against regulations, and that a neighbourhood enforcement officer had served them with a Direction to Leave Notice.
That gives them 48 hours to move. But since then, at least two more caravans have joined them.
Today (Thursday) Tanya Lyon, the council’s community safety manager, told YorkMix:
-
We were made aware that two caravans had arrived on Monday and a neighbourhood enforcement officer served them with a Direction to Leave Notice on the same day.
We have also served notice to the caravans that arrived after this. The notice gives them 48 hours to move on before further action is taken and once these caravans are off site we are looking at measures to restrict access to prevent this from happening again.
