Man stabbed in York city centre
A man was stabbed in York last night.
Police received a report at 9.05pm last night (Wednesday) that a 52-year-old man from York had been stabbed in the Walmgate area of the city.
The victim received non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary, where he was treated and later released.
A 44-year-old man from York has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
Police enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding what officers describe as an “isolated incident”.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “There are no known risks to the wider public.”
YorkMix reported last night eye witness reports of an ambulance and armed police being called to Margaret Street off Walmgate.
This morning a block of homes on Margaret Street was still taped off.
And a crime scene cordon is still in place on the riverside walk near the Coppergate Centre.
The police spokesperson said: “An area near to the Castle car park in York has been cordoned off, to allow officers to conduct a full investigation.”
Anyone with any information which would assist the investigation is asked to contact police.
