Man arrested after ‘threats to use violence’ in York

A man has been arrested after an incident sparked a large police response in York yesterday (Wednesday).
Officers were called to Fifth Avenue in Tang Hall at around 5.30pm following reports of a man in distress and threatening to use violence.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “A man in his 30s was detained by officers and arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.
“He remains in custody while enquiries continue.”
Witnesses told YorkMix that police cordoned off a large part of the road while the operation was underway, and residents weren’t allowed back to their homes until it was over.
An ambulance was also called to the scene.
