The MD of Make It York will leave the role at the end of the year.

Steve Brown has been boss of the destination management organisation since it was launched in April 2015. He said:

  • It has been a privilege to help set up and lead Make It York for four years but I feel the time is now right for me and the company for there to be a change.

The company is financially sound, is in good shape and has a fantastic team of people working hard for the benefit of York.

That will give his successor 18 months before they will have to negotiate a new service level agreement with City of York Council.

“This is a good time for a fresh pair of eyes,” Steve said.

‘Worked tirelessly for York’

Chair of Make It York Lady Jane Gibson called Steve “an exceptional leader”.

  • He has brought tremendous energy and management experience to the new company and has worked tirelessly for the staff and volunteers and for York.

He deserves to feel very proud of the respect that stakeholders have for him.
