Wednesday update: York Covid rate drops by more than half in two weeks

Another 37 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 3 February).
It takes the cumulative total to 11,215 – giving an overall infection rate of 5,324.8 cases per 100,000 people.
In the last seven days 359 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – a decrease of 123 (-25.5%) week on week.
The rolling seven-day rate in York is 178.5 new cases per 100,000 people (376 cases in the week to 30 January). That’s down from 269.7 in the previous seven days (568 cases in the week to 23 January).
That’s down from 423.5 per 100K two weeks ago (20 January) – or a drop of 57%.
The English national average is 269.1, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 204.7.
There have been two more coronavirus-related deaths in the York council area, and 26 in the last seven days (down two / 7.1%).

In North Yorkshire, there were 141 new coronavirus cases today, taking the cumulative total to 26,100 – an infection rate of 4,222.9 cases per 100K.
There are 1,630 cases in Ryedale (up 12), 4,211 in Selby (up 25), 6,760 in Harrogate (up 44), 3,697 in Hambleton (up 17), 5,028 in Scarborough (up 20), 2,252 in Richmondshire (up 17) and 2,522 in Craven (up six).
There were five more coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
That takes the total to 512 across the trust (York and Scarborough Hospitals).
