Wednesday update: Two more coronavirus deaths reported in York

A further 455 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 5 January).

That takes the cumulative case total to 39,235 – giving an overall infection rate of 18,593.7 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 3,621 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – up 529 (17.1%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 1,695.2 new cases per 100,000 people (3,577 cases in the week to 1 January). That’s up from 1,253.5 in the previous seven days (2,645 cases in the week to 25 December).

The English national average is 1,646.2, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 1,655.1.

There were two coronavirus deaths in the City of York Council area reported today, and four in the last seven days (as at 5 January).

There were five coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today, the first update since New Year’s Eve.

That takes the total to 744 across the trust (York and Scarborough Hospitals).

Today there are 108 Covid patients in York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (York and Scarborough Hospitals), down one. Three are in the intensive care unit (no change).
