Wednesday update: One coronavirus death in York; another big rise in cases; seven-day rate surpasses 300
There was one coronavirus-related death in York Hospital today (Wednesday, 21 October) – as another big rise in cases saw York reach a cumulative total of more than 3,000 infections.
A further 142 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the city today.
That takes the cumulative total to 3,016 – giving an overall infection rate of 1,432 cases per 100,000 people.
The rolling seven-day rate in York is 300.5 new cases per 100,000 people (633 cases in the week to 17 October). That’s up from 272.1 in the previous seven days (573 cases in the week to 10 October).
In the last seven days there have been 688 positive Covid-19 tests in York – which is up by 125 (22.2%).
At the University of York, there were 293 individuals self isolating due to a positive Covid-19 test today. That includes a further 28 new cases since the previous update at 4.10pm on Tuesday.
At York St John University there were 57 people self isolating due to a positive test on Tuesday.

In North Yorkshire, there were 207 new confirmed Covid-19 cases today, taking the cumulative total to 6,341 – an infection rate of 1,026 cases per 100K.
There are 360 cases in Ryedale (up 12), 965 in Selby (up 50), 1,805 in Harrogate (up 44), 835 in Hambleton (up 29), 1,094 in Scarborough (up 31), 551 in Richmondshire (up 17) and 731 in Craven (up 24).
There was one more coronavirus-related death reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today – at York Hospital.
That takes the total to 225. We don’t have an up-to-date breakdown of that figure between York and Scarborough Hospitals.
