Wednesday update: Five areas of York now have too few coronavirus cases to count

A further 22 coronavirus cases were confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 24 February).

It takes the cumulative total to 11,789 – giving an overall infection rate of 5,597.3 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days 167 people in York have tested positive for Covid-19 – an increase of 8 (5%) week on week.

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 73.6 new cases per 100,000 people (155 cases in the week to 20 February). That’s down from 87.8 in the previous seven days (185 cases in the week to 13 February).

The English national average is 119.9, the Yorkshire and Humber average is 153.7.

There has been one more coronavirus-related death in the York council area, and eight in the last seven days (down ten / -55.6%).

In North Yorkshire, there were 83 new coronavirus cases today, taking the cumulative total to 27,892.

There are 1,779 cases in Ryedale (up 11), 4,522 in Selby (up five), 7,238 in Harrogate (up 30), 3,998 in Hambleton (up 12), 5,271 in Scarborough (up 18), 2,445 in Richmondshire (up eight) and 2,639 in Craven (up two).

There was one more coronavirus-related death reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today.

That takes the total to 569 across the trust (York and Scarborough Hospitals).
