Thursday update: York surpasses total of 6,000 coronavirus cases
There were another 33 coronavirus cases confirmed in York today (Wednesday, 16 December) – taking the city’s total over the 6,000 mark.
The cumulative total is now 6,005 – giving an overall infection rate of 2,851.1 cases per 100,000 people.
In the last seven days there have been 174 positive Covid-19 tests in York – an increase of 38 (27.9%) week on week.
The rolling seven-day rate in York is 69.3 new cases per 100,000 people (146 cases in the week to 13 December). That’s up from 66.0 in the previous seven days (139 cases in the week to 5 December).

In North Yorkshire, there were 81 new coronavirus cases today, taking the cumulative total to 14,911 – an infection rate of 2,412.6 cases per 100K.
There are 821 cases in Ryedale (up five), 2,367 in Selby (up 16), 3,928 in Harrogate (up 11), 1,842 in Hambleton (up six), 3,373 in Scarborough (up 32), 1,108 in Richmondshire (up one) and 1,472 in Craven (up ten).
There were no more coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today.
That leaves the total at 336 across the trust.
