Campaigners fighting the Clifford’s Tower development have raised thousands of pounds towards a legal challenge.

Crowdfunding for the legal fees to pay for a judicial review stood at £4,400 on Friday (December 30).
But more donations are needed.
The target is £7,800 by January 19, 2017. There are 20 days to go to raise the additional £3,400 required.
Independent York councillor Johnny Hayes made the application for a High Court intervention after English Heritage won planning permission to build a shop, cafe and visitor centre into the mound of Clifford’s Tower.
What happens next
The case papers are anticipated to go before a High Court judge in mid to late January.
The judge will consider whether the planning permission granted by City of York Council for the Clifford’s Tower Visitor Centre was flawed, and whether it should go forward to a full hearing for a judicial review in the High Court in London.
Cllr Hayes said he felt compelled to intervene to prevent the visitor centre detracting from the 750 year old Scheduled Monument, which is surrounded by Grade I listed Georgian buildings.
A petition in protest at the plans was signed by 3,778 people.
I did not enter into this lightly. My wife Frankie and I have paid almost £7,500 of our own money to bring the case to Permission Stage.
However we are crowdfunding to raise the money needed for this and the judicial review.
