A brand new play reimagining the lives of three of Britain’s all-time greatest comedy heroes – Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe and Bob Monkhouse – is coming to York.
Described as a ‘laugh-a-minute play’, the West End show follows the lives and comedy writing of these three comedy legends.
The Last Laugh will be heading to the Grand Opera House York from Tuesday 10 to Saturday 14 June 2025.

Written by award-winning Paul Hendy, this show is a love letter to the golden age of British comedy. “I’ve always been fascinated by what makes something – or someone – funny,” he said.
“I wrote The Last Laugh to explore those questions, to examine comedy’s mechanics. How a pause, a look, or one word can change the way a joke lands – or doesn’t.”
When the play debuted at the Edinburgh Festival in 2024, the reaction was overwhelming. Paul said that, “It was incredibly emotional to see how these three comedians are still loved decades after they passed.”
The show stars stars Damian Williams as Tommy Cooper, Bob Golding as Eric Morecambe, Simon Cartwright as Bob Monkhouse.
Paul added: “Whether you grew up watching them or are discovering them today, I hope The Last Laugh brings some of the joy and laughter these three men brought to so many.”
Tickets start from £15 and are available via the Grand Opera House website.
