Bloodstains left on a York road and pavement were the result of a late-night incident in the city centre.
A pool of dried blood was visible on the pavement outside Sainsbury’s on Micklegate.
There was another bloodstain in the road, as well as spatter on the back of the sign and on the pavement leading away from the city centre.
They were the result of a self-inflicted injury, North Yorkshire Police told YorkMix.
A force spokesperson said: “The blood relates to injuries to a 33-year-old local man’s hand after he punched the window of a car that was parked on Micklegate.
“He had just been involved in an altercation at the nearby Artful Dodger pub at around 12.30am yesterday (Wednesday 12 July).
“The man was arrested and released on bail while enquiries continue into the incidents.”
