Police have issued advice after people were spotted ‘messing about’ with a knuckle duster.
They were on Northallerton High Street. Officers seized the weapon.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “There’s just no good reason to carry something like this.
“In fact, since changes to the law that came into force in 2022, it’s illegal to possess a ‘knuckle duster’ at all.
“Our Neighbourhood Policing Team were made aware of a group of people on Northallerton High Street ‘messing about’ with this potentially dangerous weapon earlier this week.
“Prompt police action means it’s now safely in our possession, where it can’t cause harm to anyone. And our enquiries are ongoing.
“If you’re aware of anyone carrying a weapon – whether it’s a knuckle duster, or a knife, or anything else – do the right thing and tell the police.
“You’re not wasting our time: in fact, you could save a life.”
