It’s not the sort of weather you associate with relatively sedate North Yorkshire.
But one homeowner got a shock when a mini-tornado struck, flattening trees and shrubs in her garden in Riccall, south of York.
Susie Brindley says the freak weather struck at about 10.45am on Saturday.

Susie told YorkMix: “We were out when it happened but our neighbours saw and heard it. They said it was a mini-tornado.
“It’s destroyed four mature trees. Thankfully, though, there was no structural damage and it missed the hen run. I’ve never seen anything like this before.
“I can’t believe what it did in seconds. It made such a mess. But it could have been so much worse.”
The weather event took out three cherry trees and a willow. Now Susie has begun the process of clearing up her garden.
