York City have signed attacking midfielder Olly Dyson after his release from Huddersfield Town.
The 20-year-old played on loan for National League champions Barrow last season, scoring four goals in 28 appearances for the promotion-winning side.
He joins City after training with the new-look squad throughout the past two weeks, impressing the management as they began full time preparations with the full squad on Tuesday.
Dyson said: “I’m really excited to sign, as soon as I heard about it, I just wanted to jump on it straight away and get involved.
“This week we have all got together [in training] and it’s been really good the tempo has been great and I’ve enjoyed it.
“I like attacking midfield but I also play on the left and the right so I’ll play anywhere along the front three.”
Play in different positions
City assistant manager Micky Cummins said: “He was someone we watched from afar last year, scored four goals in a promotion-winning team over 28 games in a successful season and the type we want to bring in.
“He is comfortable on the ball, he will look to attack, dribble, gets in good goalscoring positions and can play numerous positions.
“We have a few [trialists] we are looking at who have done really well, we have a few games coming up amongst ourselves and behind closed doors.
“Trialists have got to come in and earn the opportunity to get a contract, we will give them that against decent opposition so it will be a test.
“We are also looking at seeing how they are within the group that we already have – if they mix well, if they are good players have the attributes we want.”
