The forecasters are predicting temperatures hitting the high 20s in midweek.
Both the BBC and the Met Office are predicting a high of 26˚C (78.8˚F) on Tuesday and Wednesday (September 13 and 14), while the Weather Channel says the mercury will hit 29˚C (84.2˚F) on Tuesday and 27˚C on Wednesday.
That puts York on the same temperature as St Tropez in the south of France. And it would at least equal the hottest temperature in York last month, which according to the University of York weather records was 26.8˚C
The same data shows that the highest temperature in York last September was 19.6˚C.
Later in the week the temperature is set to drop, with a distinctly more normal 17-18˚C by next weekend.
