Gallery: Fashion stars take to the catwalk to showcase colourful creations
Bursting at the seams with creative ideas, a fashion show first in York showcased colourful collections just perfect for summer.
Each of the outfits in this photo gallery by Kathryn Richardson was made by students from dressmaking and pattern cutting courses run by the council’s York Learning team.
To mark the end of the course, the sewing superstars held a catwalk show at Heworth Cricket Club last Tuesday (June 9).
It was organised by tutor Kate Unsworth, an experienced bridal wear designer. She has been sharing her creative flair with York students for the last four years.
Special guest Stuart Hillard, a contestant from popular BBC show The Great British Sewing Bee, launched proceedings before the models hit the runway.
The clothes varied from women’s tailored wear, to more informal outfits as well as fashions for children.
Norah, a student of Kate’s Tuesday morning class, said:
As well as her regular ten-week courses at Heworth Cricket Club, Kate will be running a 25-week garment construction course at the venue during the autumn, as well as a number of sewing based and pattern cutting one day workshops at Huntington School.
CONGRATULATIONS ON WHAT WAS CLEARLY A LOVELY DAY WITH LOTS OF WONDERFULY OUTFITS. I WAS ABLE TO JOIN IN AS A VISITOR ON A MONDAY MORNING CLASS A FEW MONTHS AGO. KATE WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND VERY KNOWLEDGABLE. ALL HER SUGGESTIONS HAVE WORKED PERFECTLY. I ONLY WISH I LIVED IN YORK AND NOT LONDON WHERE CLASSSES LIKE THIS ARE AS RARE AS HENS TEETH. I WISH KATE AND ALL HER STUDENTS MANY MORE SUCCESSES. PS- whoever took the photo of my daughter Jo and my granddaughter Darcey – thank you – it is lovely – Regards LIZ
