Kids bouncing off the walls? Get your bikes out and join a social bike ride.
That’s the message from Selby District Association of Voluntary Service (AVS).
It has organised four bike rides for all ages. And it’s perfect for nervous or rusty riders, as it includes a trip alongside a group of friendly locals, on traffic free routes around Selby, including an ice cream or coffee stop.
Matt Fisher, Selby District AVS project worker, said: “Cycling is a great way of getting around that doubles up as exercise, it saves us money, keeps us fitter and is a great way to escape the stresses of life, enjoy the countryside and make new friends.”
Tony Batty, who owns Selby bike shop Cogs and Coffee is leading the rides and supporting the social ride events.
“By encouraging cycling, we are also promoting active travel, just one of the environmental challenges raised by local people as part of Our Zero Selby,” he said.
“A new initiative for community-led action to shape the future of Selby and bring climate change much closer to home.”
