York Learning share a few creative ideas this autumn
York Learning is bringing the community together through a love of art and crafts.
Engaging people through art is something we’ve always done, through our annual community arts projects and regular weekly classes.
We want the York art community to know we’re still here providing uplifting and inspiring opportunities for people of all abilities.
The theme of this year’s community arts project is The Place Where I Live. We’re calling on local amateur artists and art students to design a small section of our York map, taking inspiration from our beautiful city.
You’ll be supplied with paper, upon which road and river structures will already be traced. You’ll be expected to maintain these structures, within your piece, so that the map sections fit together when the piece is exhibited next year.
All sections need to be created using black fine liner, but beyond that, you are free to include any element, feature, place or person you would like to.
We’re keen for people to incorporate their own ideas onto what will be a wonderfully original depiction of our city. Once you’ve finished please contact Claire [email protected].
For inspiration, please visit our Padlet board. We’d love you to become involved.

Colin the Cat
Why not make Colin the Cat? York Learning’s Re-Make-Re-Love project invites you to come armed with your imagination, some old clothes, a needle and thread, to make this adorable soft toy.
Transform old garments, normally destined for landfill into something delightful and fun. Children and parents can combine their skills to make a gorgeous gift, perhaps for a relative they can’t visit. It’s perfect for schools – children can make ‘Colin’ for their friends.
You can either join our course or visit our Padlet board where you’ll find simple instructions to make the item independently. Don’t forget to place a photo of your finished toy on Padlet!
