The pub is in the heart of York – but it hides a sunny secret.
Found on Church Street, The Golden Lion looks like a traditional alehouse. But it has a hidden roof terrace which has just been given a colourful makeover.
The suntrap now has a railway theme. There are suitcases and old travel guides on the wall, as well as an old London North Eastern Railway sign.
Red-cushioned benches, a green privacy hedge and mirrors complete the look.
This is only part of the revamp. The Golden Lion was closed for a couple of weeks to allow for a full internal redecoration.
It reopened with a party atmosphere and drinkers dancing to live music from The Mojos.
Jenny Glenn, manager of the Greene King-owned pub, said the opening night was busy – and the sunny weekend has already made the beer terrace a hit.
