Firefighters were called to a York bridge after several people reported hearing explosions last night (Wednesday).
They were called to the bridge over the River Foss near Garden Place at 5.59pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The night shift started with a bang – several ones in fact, heard in the background as 15 999 calls to the fire service stated there were explosions heard and smoke sighted near The Shambles multi-storey car park.
Where it happened
“On attendance, York crew found a tent and belongings – including aerosol cans – belonging to a homeless person, on fire after being ignited deliberately.
“A hose reel was used to extinguish.”
