Christmas at the Bar Convent
Thu Dec 3 – Wed Dec 23
Join the Bar Convent for an uplifting festive experience as we celebrate choirs of Angels and all that they represent this Christmas.
Angels are synonymous with festivities, but this year, more than ever, the Bar Convent will be celebrating all that they have come to mean to different people; from faith, love and comfort to strength, protection and guardianship.
The windows of our Grade 1 listed building will be adorned with Angels, signifying a prayer or a message, to create a stunning and moving display.
Guests are invited to add their own Angel to a tree in our beautiful 18th century Hidden Chapel which provides the perfect backdrop for those in need of peaceful and meaningful reflection. With almost two hundred Angels in its decoration, guests can also discover how they have been depicted and their symbolic representation through religion, history, art and architecture.
In our exhibition, we are thrilled to be hosting A Street of Angels by renowned artist, Ronnie Cruwys, who took her inspiration from the Archangel Michael and the story of how he is said to have protected the Bar Convent. Using vibrant colours, semi-precious minerals and 24 carat gold leaf, this stunning series of evocative and moving works encapsulate the essence of Angels and their symbolic meaning. An Angel trail will also add some Christmas sparkle for our younger visitors.
No Christmas experience would be complete without some warming food for the soul – we’ll be serving delicious seasonal specials from Thursday December 3rd.
Don’t miss a visit to our shop where Ronnie Cruwys’ works will be available for purchase alongside a selection of hand-picked gift ideas.
The Bar Convent has been a sanctuary to all since it first opened in 1686 and it has become many things to many people. We hope that you too will find something special within our walls.
