Food has been moving people to poetry and art for centuries.

From Van Gogh’s fishy still life paintings to Shakespeare’s fruity sonnets, good grub has proved an inspiration to artists and writers.

Now the York Food & Drink Festival, in collaboration with YorkMix, is searching for some of the city’s own talented artists, writers and photographers.

The festival theme for 2015 is Food In Words And Pictures.

And if you can take a photograph, draw or paint a picture, or write a poem on the theme ‘Yorkshire Food’ you could win some tasty prizes.

A celebration of Yorkshire food

The three competitions are being launched during the York Food And Drink Festival Taster Weekend (June 6 and 7). More about what’s going on here.

Yorkshire has some of the best local produce, restaurants and bars in the country. If you’re a budding artist, photographer or poet, we’d love to see your take on Yorkshire food in words and pictures.

There are two categories for each competition: under 16s and over 16s. The winners from each category will receive some exclusive foodie prizes as well as the chance to have their artwork/poetry displayed in a gallery in York.

The closing date is midnight on Sunday, September 27..

Winners will be announced during the full food festival, which runs from September 18-27, 2015.

The best entries will be displayed, alongside the winners, during the festival.
