Malton Police fine 126mph driver with covid fine and speeding charge
Police have branded the actions of speeding drivers in North Yorkshire over the weekend as unacceptable and say some will end up in court.
Officers from North Yorkshire Police Traffic Bureau say despite the current restrictions in place they have seen an increase in traffic this weekend in both the Dales and the roads to the coast.
“Our officers have been out covering a large area and seen some unacceptable speeds from cars and motorcycles through residential areas and A roads!”
“A vehicle was recorded travelling at 126mph in the 70mph limit on the A64 at Malton. It was stopped and the driver details were obtained. A file will be prepared for court shortly.
The driver and passenger were “just going for a drive” and were also issued with covid tickets for breaching current lockdown regulations.
“As frustrating as lockdown may be, we must all do our bit so we can return to normality sooner” Officers added.
Here are just a few of the other speeds recorded this weekend
101mph – A65 (60mph limit)
57mph while overtaking other vehicles on the wrong side of a traffic island – A6068 (30mph limit)
53mph, 51mph – B6479 (30mph limit)
Again, these drivers will have to go to court now.
