Rachael Maskell has sent her thoughts to the family of the first coronavirus death at York NHS Teaching Hospital Trust.
No details about the death have been released except that it was a patient being treated at the trust – which includes York Hospital as well as hospitals in Scarborough, Malton, Bridlington, St Monica’s Easingwold, and Selby.
Neither the Trust nor NHS England would confirm any details about the patient involved.
York Central MP Rachael Maskell tweeted: “It is so sad to hear of the first death from Coronavirus at York Teaching Hospital.
“My thoughts are with their family.
“Please stay at home and if you absolutely have to go out – distance yourself. Coronavirus is real, Coronavirus is dangerous.”
She later told Minster FM:
I know this is all really difficult for everyone, the sun is shining and we want to be outside but we must stay at home.
This is a really deadly virus, and worse is still to come.
If we obey the rules then we might just survive it.
