The delicious comedy that gave its name to one of the UK’s most loved chocolates Quality Street returns to York – after its original run was cut short.
The play, written by Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie, is a regency comedy about two sisters who run a school for unruly children on Quality Street.
The original run of the production in 2020 was cut short by the pandemic, but the Broadsides and New Vic Theatre production has been revived for 2023 – and stars Paula Lane, familiar for playing Kylie Platt in Coronation Street for six years.
Quality Street is at York Theatre Royal from Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 May.
The rest of the company are returning cast members Alicia McKenzie and Louisa-May Parker, who are joined by Jelani D’Aguilar, Alice Imelda, Aron Julius, Alex Moran, Jamie Smelt and Gilly Tompkins.
Laurie Sansom, director of Quality Street and artistic director and CEO of Northern Broadsides comments: “It was heartbreaking to have to abandon this production in 2020 when it was being enjoyed by so many. We are thrilled to be working with our wonderful partners at New Vic Theatre to bring it back to stages up and down the country with a fantastically playful company.”
The production has been created with a team of retired workers from the Halifax factory where Quality Street chocolates have been made since 1936, who have added their own witty observations to the show.
Don’t miss this farcical romp full of romance and outrageous antics coming to York!
Tickets start at £15 and are available via the York Theatre Royal website.
