A North Yorkshire community centre unveiled its new bar during a very successful Bank Holiday weekend.
Staynor Hall Community Centre in Selby has called its bar area Woodies, a reference to the ancient woodland which once grew at the site.
Former disused classrooms have been transformed into the bar, which can now be enjoyed by the local community.
Across the weekend, hundreds of residents went to a series of events including a pop-up street food night with singer Carlton Gene, and a family day on Bank Holiday Monday.
Ben Anderson, chair of Staynor Hall Community Centre Trust, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the whole community supporting the new venue.

“A place like this has been missing for a long time. Watching people reconnect with old friends and make new ones is exactly what we hoped for when we set out on this project.
“Just a few weeks ago, Woodies was a couple of underused classrooms – now it’s a comfortable, stylish bar area available to hire on its own or alongside the main hall for larger events.”
With a different street food vendor booked every Friday evening to the end of September, residents can look forward to a variety of cuisines – from Greek gyros to fish and chips and smash burgers – making it a weekly highlight for the whole community.
Resident Julie said: “The place is fantastic. We already have such a strong sense of community here, and now we finally have somewhere to meet without needing to plan a formal get-together.
“The kids loved the garden games, and it’s great being able to relax while keeping an eye on them.”

Staynor Hall Community Centre is on Staynor Link, Selby. The new Woodies bar & Street food evenings run every Friday from 5pm to 10pm until September 26th.
