Claudia Lawrence investigation: Man arrested on suspicion of murder
Detectives investigating the disappearance of Claudia Lawrence have this morning (Tuesday 13 May 2014) arrested a 59-year-old man from York on suspicion of murder.
Forensic examinations and searches are being conducted which are expected to be ongoing over a number of days. A car has also been seized as part of the enquiries.
Claudia has not been found.
Police cannot rule out the possibility of further arrests in the future as the review continues.
Claudia’s family have been notified and are being supported by trained officers.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and pass details to the Force Control Room. Please quote “Claudia Lawrence” when passing on details.
Julia Mulligan, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, said: “I am sure people will understand that it would be inappropriate for me to comment on an ongoing investigation as operational policing is the responsibility of the Chief Constable.
“More generally, however, I am satisfied to see the investment made in the new Major Crime Unit is able to provide dedicated resources for North Yorkshire Police to concentrate solely on investigation of serious crime, including unresolved cases such as the disappearance of Claudia.”
