Chumbawamba singer-songwriter Boff Whalley and award-winning writer and performer Daniel Bye are premiering their brand new joint project at York Theatre Royal.
Through story and song, ‘These Hills Are Ours’ explores their mutual love of running, celebrates the freedom to roam wild places – and asks what they’re really running from.
It visits York Theatre Royal on Friday 16 July.
It is written and performed and by Daniel and Boff, with direction and lighting design from Katharine Williams, and produced by ARC Stockton.

The inspiration behind the show came from Daniel and Boff running a series of routes for the last three years, through city and country and culminating in one epic journey.
The ‘most personal piece of work’ either of them have made, ‘These Hills Are Ours’ explores how far we’re prepared to go for what we believe in.
A personal piece
Daniel Bye said: “Boff and I have worked together on lots of projects, and work conversations always had a habit of drifting into conversation about running. So, we thought it was high time to make hay out of that and work together on a show with running as its starting point.
“Non-runners will get just as much from this show as runners. Anyone who’s ever enjoyed the countryside, celebrated freedom, done something hard, or just wanted to run away from it all, will be at home in this show.”

But there’s a bonus for runners too. In each venue Dan and Boff will invite the audience to join them for a run the following morning.
“Although if you don’t run and do want to chat, I expect we’ll be in the bar afterwards,” Daniel added.
‘These Hills Are Ours’ will be performed at York Theatre Royal on 16 July at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £15 or £10 for under 18s.
