A car has crashed into a wall in York.
The accident happened on York Road, Acomb, this afternoon (Tuesday).
A silver Ford Focus and a blue Mercedes C class collided. The Mercedes left the road close to the roundabout with Oak Rise.
It has knocked down a gate and part of the exterior wall leading to some flats.
A baby in the Focus suffered a facial injury.
Téba Diatta was walking close by when the accident happened. She told YorkMix:
-
I heard this crunching noise.
I went round and saw one of the bollards moving – I think the blue Mercedes had gone straight over it and into the wall on the corner of the residential building.
It had hit the gates and the side of the wall.
‘There’s a baby’
Téba said the silver Ford came to rest on a pavement on the other side of the road and a young family got out.
“I heard people saying, ‘there’s a baby’. They got the baby out – it was crying but it looked OK.”
Health staff from the nearby Acomb Garth NHS mental health unit were quickly on the scene and helping out.
Two ambulances and two paramedic first responders were also on scene, along with police from the nearby Acomb police station, and two fire engines.
The infant was taken to hospital.
